Bitcoin hits 20 million coins officially mined
Bitcoin has officially mined 20 million coins. This means 95.24% of all Bitcoin that will ever exist is now in circulation.
The first 20 million coins took about 17 years to mine. However the final 1 million will take over 100 years, with the last fraction expected around 2140.
It’s also widely regarded that approximately 1.5 to 3 million coins may be lost forever, making the effective supply even tighter as demand from institutions grows.
